Grossglockner Pass, Austria
#1
my boss was tellin me about this pass this morning, never heard of it myself but it's supposed to be one of the best roads in the world,
it's a toll road and the road surface is designed to give extra grip, web link here http://www.grossglockner.at/en/hochalpen.../motorrad/

anyone been on it or heard of it ?

Andy, yes I have heard of it, but I understood it to be more touristy than a fast road coarse, definately not the Austrian version of the Nurburgring.

It doesn't look as good as the ones we darted over in the pyrenees.Still wouldn't mind a crack at it though. I quite fancy seeing a bit of Austria sometime.

Not been on this alpine pass but have done a good few of the others, some are very good some have great views most have to many hairpins which are good crack but after 2 days the joke wears thin.

Some of the best roads I have been on are a little lower the likes of Route Napoleon or the B500 Barden Barden these are long wide fast flowing roads well maintained with long sweeping bends plenty of clear line of sight and great views

And Switzerland ..... OK the place is ruled with a rod of iron, but the roads and scenery is fantastic, definitely a place to consider.

That's a hard one B500 is a great road but the views are not the best, that said its so fast if you were sight seeing you would be part of the landscape, hope that the roads in NW Scotland will throw a couple up in a weeks time but for now it has to be the Gorge De Verdon n southern France this has it all for me one of the best days out I have ever had on a bike, I was on a VFR 750 great bike for it as well.

To date Chris the second day of our tour, we was in the Pyrenees Mountains and it just blew my mind to the extent I was yelling and whooping and laughing my tits off.It was just brilliant.I think a couple of the lads heard me giggling like a big kid.I dont know the road names I'll get panman to put it up.I think we caught it all on film so it will be nice to re live it when the DVD gets released Smile

I can confirm he was hollering and a whooping in his helmet. A bit like Panman does in his cab, only difference being it was his own helmet.
I am Weasel. Hmm, toasty warm hands................. I love my smashing heated grips O'shagnasty.
